Horsted (the apparently dative plural 'horsum' is unexpected here - KPN p. 206 suggests that the form may represent 'horsan' (Horsa's) or even a reduced form of 'horshamstede' - 'hors' + 'hamstede', but note that the form in the manuscript is 'u' with suspension stroke, so this may simply be a misrepresentation of 'a' between the draft and the charter - thus 'horsa') Back to text
